With five SAW movies already out there, how many ways are left to create buzz about a sequel that normally
nobody would care about?

The SAW 6 marketing team came up with the great idea of creating a Facebook app that lets you kill 4 of your friends (and rescue two). Although it’s a reasonable question why you’re still friends with people you’re ready to kill, it can also be a great way of taking an existing relationship to an even deeper level. Let’s say you’re still friends with your ex on Facebook. Killing that person in the SAW 6 Facebook app can be seen as a sign of true love and commitment to your current partner, and it also proves to them you are really over that past relationship.
This is how it works:
- choose six friends that you want to include in the “wheel trap”, a death game taken from the current movie
- you will see your friends’ profile pictures spinning in the “wheel of death trap”
- the clock ticks down and you must decide either to shoot or rescue your friends
- only two of six can be saved in the end
After successful completion, you can decide whether you want to post the result to your and your friends’ wall.
Violence might be considered as a buzz-worthy element but it does not always work well, like the controversy about the “stab” option in the Superpoke app or about the “Al Kaida wars” app shows.
