Google adds “Personalized” feature to its Reader

Google introduced some changes to its widely popular news syndication service Google Reader to help you find content faster.

  • Discover popular searches

With the new “Explore” section, Google shows you news, images, and videos that are popular outside your subscriptions. The new section contains “Popular items” in which Google suggests content you might like, based on your subscriptions and your search history. The new Google Reader section also features a “Recommended sources” item that shows links to other sites, based on your subscriptions and web history, in case you opt-in for that.

  • Sort by magic brings top new sites first

The “Feed Settings” now allow you to sort your subscriptions not only by newest / oldest, but also “by magic“. This options rearranges your items based on personal usage, your overall activity in the Reader. It’s pretty much an intelligent way of prioritizing  content in an like/like-not-Stumble Upon way.
